International Publishing Program: Sharing Kazakhstan's History with the World

The D.A. Kunaev International Foundation is leading a major publishing program aimed at promoting the historical legacy of Kazakhstan on the global stage. We believe that the works and memoirs of Dinmukhamed Kunaev, particularly his book "From Stalin to Gorbachev," are an invaluable resource for understanding the key events of the 20th century, not only within our country but in a global context.

Our primary goal is to make this knowledge accessible to an international audience of historians, political scientists, students, and anyone interested in the history of Central Asia and the Cold War era.

Key Program Initiatives

  • Translation into Chinese: The Chinese edition of D.A. Kunaev's book, "30 Days in People's China," is in its final stages and will soon go to print. This step will provide one of the world's largest reading audiences with access to unique historical accounts.
  • Translation into English: The book "From Stalin to Gorbachev" is being actively adapted and translated into English, the international language of academia. This will enable its inclusion in academic programs at leading universities worldwide.
  • Translation into French: A French translation of the book "From Stalin to Gorbachev" is planned and currently under development, which will allow us to reach the Francophone audience in Europe, Africa, and North America.

Project Significance: A Mission of Cultural Diplomacy

This publishing program is a vital part of our cultural diplomacy. It allows us to present an independent perspective on our history to the world, strengthen international dialogue, and raise the international profile of Kazakhstan as a nation with a rich and complex history.

The D.A. Kunaev Museum in Kyrgyzstan: A Bridge of Friendship and Shared History

A key focus of the Foundation's international activity is strengthening good-neighborly relations with the countries of Central Asia. We are proud to present a joint project with the Medical Center of the Presidential Affairs Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan to establish a new cultural center: the D.A. Kunaev Museum in the city of Cholpon-Ata, located at a renowned sanatorium in the Kyrgyz Republic.

Dinmukhamed Kunaev made an immense contribution to the development of not only Kazakhstan but the entire region. His name is inextricably linked with an era of creation, and his work was always aimed at strengthening the friendship between our peoples.

Project Objectives

  • Preserving Shared Memory: To create an exhibition dedicated to the life of D.A. Kunaev and his role in the development of Kazakh-Kyrgyz relations.
  • Fostering Cultural Exchange: The museum will serve as a venue for joint exhibitions, conferences, and educational programs that promote closer ties between the two countries.
  • Boosting Tourist Attraction: The new museum will become a point of interest for tourists from Kazakhstan and other countries visiting the Issyk-Kul region.

Project Significance: A Mission of Cultural Diplomacy

This project is being carried out in close partnership, uniting the efforts of the Foundation and the state. Currently, the exhibition is being developed, archival materials are being collected, and the design of the future museum is underway. We are confident that this project will become a powerful symbol of unbreakable friendship, respect, and our common historical heritage.

Publication of Archival Documents: Uncovering New Pages of History

Continuing our fundamental work of studying and publishing historical primary sources, the D.A. Kunaev International Foundation has completed preparations for the publication of the third volume of archival documents. This collection is the result of years of meticulous work in state and personal archives, aimed at introducing previously unpublished materials into scholarly circulation.

The first two volumes were highly acclaimed by the academic community and the general public. The third volume will continue this tradition, presenting readers with new documents that shed light on key aspects of the political, economic, and social life of Kazakhstan in the second half of the 20th century.

What the Third Volume Will Include:

  • D.A. Kunaev's Book, "30 Days in People's China": For the first time, this unique travel diary will be published, in which Dinmukhamed Kunaev shares his impressions and analytical observations of China in the mid-20th century.
  • Previously declassified memos and reports.
  • Minutes from meetings and sessions on strategic issues of the republic's development.
  • Personal and official correspondence of D.A. Kunaev with prominent figures of the era.
  • Materials related to crucial decisions in industry, agriculture, and culture.

Significance of the Project

The publication of primary sources is our contribution to combating historical falsification and creating a solid documentary basis for objective research. This volume will be an indispensable resource for historians, political scientists, students, and all who seek to understand the complexity and richness of the era that shaped modern Kazakhstan.

The "Qonaevtanu" Educational Course: Cultivating Future Leaders

Modern Kazakhstan needs a new generation of leaders—educated, responsible, and dedicated to their country. The D.A. Kunaev International Foundation considers it our duty to contribute to the development of these young people. To this end, we have launched a pilot educational project: the elective course "Qonaevtanu."

The first institution to host this project is the Baurzhan Momyshuly National Military-Sports College, named after the legendary hero. This choice was deliberate: it is here that the future military and civil elite of the country is being educated.

About the "Qonaevtanu" Course:
The course is dedicated to studying the life, work, and management principles of Dinmukhamed Kunaev. It is more than a set of biographical facts; it is an in-depth analysis of his leadership style, strategic thinking, and ethical principles of serving the people.

Project Objectives:
  • Patriotic Education: To foster a sense of pride in their country's history among young people through the examples of outstanding individuals.
  • Leadership Development: To study practical examples of complex decision-making, crisis management, and long-term planning.
  • Historical Enlightenment: To provide a deep dive into a key period of Kazakhstan's development, understanding the origins of its independence and economic potential.

Significance of the Project

The successful launch of the pilot project at the B. Momyshuly College has shown significant interest from the cadets. In the future, the Foundation plans to expand the "Qonaevtanu" program and implement it in other educational institutions across the country.
